Extension to file accounts with Companies House

Apr 03, 2020

Companies House has started allowing business to apply for an extension to filing their accounts, from the 25th of March. The government and Companies House have collaborated on this initiative in an effort to enable businesses to prioritise management of the impact of Coronavirus.

*Please note that this extension does not automatically apply, and you must register for it*

The Companies House website states “If your accounts will be late because your company is affected by COVID-19, you can apply for an automatic and immediate 3 month extension to file your accounts.” Not sure how to do that? No worries, it’s pretty simple and you can apply online.

You will need:

  • Your login details (or you will need to register if you have not already done so – you may be required to activate your account by email.)
  • Your company number
  • An active email address
  • (info about the reason for your requests and supporting documents if there are any)

If you have these, it is a simple step by step process. Just be sure you select the reason for delay as ‘Covid-19’, when asked for the reason you are applying for an extension.
